Alistair Anderson has been at the forefront of the performance of traditional music for over three decades, starting as a teenage prodigy in the High Level Ranters band. Internationally known as a master of the English concertina, he has taken the music of Northumberland to audiences around the world. He also plays Northumbrian pipes. As well as championing the traditional music & musicians of the area he has a growing reputation as a composer of new music rooted in local traditions. He founded Newcastle University’s Traditional Music Degree course & remains one of the most uplifting & inspiring performers of the music.

In the workshop Alistair will share tunes from the compositions of James Hill (fiddle) Tom Clough, Billy Pigg (pipers) Kathryn Tickell (pipes/fiddle) Will Atkinson (button box/mouth organ) Willie Taylor (fiddle) plus some of his own. He will also discuss Northumbrian playing styles. Music will be sent out in advance.
