BBC Folk Awards Best Musician nominee Dan Walsh is a brilliant, innovative clawhammer banjo player, singer and guitarist. He plays British, Irish and American folk music with a healthy dose of funky grooves, poignant songs, astonishing musical departures & lively humour. Dan plays solo, with North-East concertina legend Alistair Anderson, with the Urban Folk Quartet, with his own trio (Ciaran Algar, Nic Zuppardi), & has played with Imelda May, Joss Stone, Seth Lakeman, the Levellers, Duane Eddy, Martin Simpson, Suhail Yusuf Khan & the City of London Sinfonia.
Dan is the only international banjoist to be invited to teach at the Midwest Banjo Camp in the USA. He also teaches at Newcastle and Sheffield universities. The workshop will focus on the fundamentals of clawhammer banjo, explaining the techniques to get started & ‘tricks’ to enable playing more types of tunes, leading into composing & arranging. Some music (banjo tab) will be sent out in advance.
